THE BLAZE OF BATTLE: When the Daily Bugle publicly denounced the fire-wielding Corona as a mutant terrorist, the hero also learned he was a prime suspect in a rash of suspicious fires in Chinatown. Corona set out to investigate, clashing with his housebound wife in the process.

Meanwhile Vanguard, a New York city vigilante who was implicated as an associate, decided to disprove those claims by going into battle with Corona himself, in an effort to capture him. The battle was fought to a standstill, and both Vanguard and Corona managed to elude pursuing officers. But, unnoticed by both, a sinister figure clad in white silently observed from a nearby rooftop. Shortly thereafter, another another building, a restaurant called The Jade Peacock went up in flames....

HOT PURSUIT a young African American from New Orleans named Dwayne Murphy also believed the Bugle's account. He had also heard rumors that Corona, who was spotted in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina, was responsible for a rash of fires that occured during that disaster. Dwayne, a mutant with the power to increase his density and strength, had moved to Gotham City as a participant in a newly formed Wayne Foundation disaster relocation program. Yet he still missed home, and he still wanted vengeance against the one who helped desecrate its memory: Corona.

Using the costume and codename of "Strike", he went to New York City to investigate. During the investigation he came across a couple of young Chinese gang members who called themselves the Dragon Lords. The young punks were threatening an elderly pawn shop owner, in an apparent extortion attempt. Strike intervened and the punks were easily defeated, but not before the old man is shot. The punks escaped and as Strike watched the old man whisked away to a hospital, he struggled with nagging doubts about his role as a hero.

Later that night, Strike heard fire trucks wailing in the distance. Racing to the scene of a burning restaurant named "The Jade Peacock", he overheard the panicked restaurant owners frantic realization that their young child was still trapped in the building! Instinctively, he rushed inside, past guarding police, to save the little girl trapped in the apartments above the restaurant.

Meanwhile, Corona brazenly attempted to show the police and fire fighters that he was on their side, by landing on the sidewalk and attempting to extinguish the flames with his powers. Unfortunately the plan backfired, and the police rushed to arrest him, assuming that he was using his powers to spread the flames! One cop bravely tackled him to the ground, and he was shocked to discover the cop's identity: She's his ex-girlfriend from college, Cathy Simmeck! Corona attempted to reason with her, even going so far as to hint at his true identity. But his attempts only enraged her, and her reaction revealed her strong hatred of mutantkind. As Corona escaped to the rooftops, Cathy fired a shot, accidentally injuring an innocent bystander in the arm.

Strike emerged from the building with the child in his arms. He saw Corona take to the sky and decided to pursue him to the adjacent roof. While Corona concentrated to control the flames, Strike climbed the fire escape to gain access to the roof...

Just as Corona extinguished the flames, Strike charged forward. But when the young mutant revealed the reason for his attack, Corona realized that Strike was the same mutant Professor X had sent him to find during the hurricane! Corona explains his failed mission in New Orleans and convinced Strike of the truth: that he was not responsible for any of the fires in Louisiana or New York. Just as Corona was about to invite Strike to meet with Professor X, a gravelly voice speaks from the shadows: "You're not going anywhere!" Stepping out of the dark, the mystery man revealed himself: Batman!

BIO-HAZARD (Introducing Lady Haze): The following night, Lady Haze, having recently relocated from Paradise Island to New York had much to consider. After receiving the gift of Wind Control from Poseidon and his demigod son Aelus and training with the Amazons on Paradise Island, she learned of her role in fulfilling a prophesy: “Your destiny awaits in the city of New York. There you will gather those who weild the powers of the elements. And together you must brave the threat of each element. You must break the curse! Do not allow the crystal to break, or the lives of many will be at stake!”

Flying over the waterfront, Lady Haze contemplated recent news headlines and wondered whether the fiery Corona might also play a role in this prophesy. Despite the headlines, she felt an unexplainable desire to try to make contact with him. As she pondered whether she would act on those feelings, she happened upon two goons unloading barrels from a van and dumping them into the river, Lady Haze was quick to act! No sooner did she intervene, than a strangely costumed villain perched on a pogo flyer, who wore a long mechanical tail and a glass helmet resembling an upside down fishbowl, attacked from behind. He attempted to strangle her with a long metallic tendril attached to his arm, but she fought of his grip and took to the air.

After a valiant struggle, Haze managed to defeat the unknown villain, and had him arrested after reporting the incident to the police. Returning home, she was surprised by an intruder in her bedroom: Batman!

Batman explained that he was training a young hero named Steel Savior in Gotham, but that the Joker had just escaped Arham, and Steel Savior was not ready to face him. Batman requested for Haze to keep Steel Savior occupied on a case in New York, while he went after the Joker. He then reveals that a Chinese gang leader who calls himself the White Dragon is behind the suspicious fires in Chinatown, and suggests that Steel Saviors abilities would be well suited for the case. While confirming that Corona has nothing to do with any of the fires, he warns Lady Haze to stay away from him, as he feels Corona is incompetent.

Lady Haze agrees to meet with Steel Savior the next night atop La Grand Domain, a hotel in Dobson Plaza. Now she's even more sure in her conviction that her own path and Corona's are destined to cross....

WILL CORONA EVER CLEAR HIS NAME? AND WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN LADY HAZE MEETS CORONA? WE'LL FIND OUT IN THE CONCLUSION TO OUR CHINATOWN ARC WHICH BEGINS SATURDAY, JANUARY 21 @ 6:00 P.M.

In the meantime, please review the rules for tactical movement and range in the home rules section of this site. We'll be making extensive use of these rules on our large city maps, so it's important that all players are familiar with and understand them. Any questions can be addressed in the comments under the message.

I'll also be retooling the Knockback rules shortly. I don't have exact details nailed down yet, but we'll discuss the basics on Saturday before the game, and take a vote. See you there!
