STARTING HERO POINTS:

At the beginning of a campaign, an original player character receives a number of hero points equal to 1/2 his power level (rounded down) and gains 1 additional hero point at the beginning of each adventure. Established DC or Marvel characters start with only 1 hero point per adventure.

EARNING AND USING HERO POINTS:

Hero points are awarded during the game as per the standard rules. Player characters may save their hero points from adventure to adventure or convert them to Power Points at the end of the adventure. Established DC or Marvel Characters do not. However, players who have played an established character earn 1 Power Point at the end of the adventure, which they can apply as a reward to any of their original characters.

Hero points are not limited per turn. You may spend as many hero points as you wish during the round. Advantages purchased with hero points last until the end of the round.

At the end of the adventure, characters who have ignored their mission goals, or (through their actions or inaction) have left the world off worse than it was before may be penalized, losing 1 hero point. They may also be penalized during the game for poor roleplaying: Irresponsible actions that are out of character, or decisons based on player knowledge that their character wouldn't have, for example.

POWER POINTS:

No Power Points are awarded at the end of the adventure. After each adventure, heroes can create their own Power Points by converting Hero Points. These Power Points are "banked" and considered "frozen"; they cannot be used until the completion of the current upcoming adventure. When these Power Points become available to the player, they may be either spent or saved.

Power points are never lost for in-character actions (bad roleplaying, horribly failing a mission, etc), but they can be taken away for player actions (lateness, no-shows, etc.) The Standard deduction is -1 power point for lateness, -2 Power Points for a no-show. If the late or absent player has no Power Points available, the GM may deduct the penalty from the character's Hero Points instead. NOTE: The player only incurs a penalty if they have failed to give advance notice regarding lateness or abscence.

INCREASING POWER LEVELS:

Power levels are not increased by the GM. Instead, each player raises their own character's power level by spending 15 power points. Further power point expenditures can improve that characters traits, raising them up to the new Power Level as the player sees fit. In this way, each player is directly responsible for their own character's advancement.
